Hi Steve:

I previously wrote

To join the two wires, I use a home=made butt-joint connector
fashioned from a 3/4" length of brass (hobby) tubing purchased
at my nearby hardware store. I Stripped the ends of the two
wires to 3/8" each, bought a length of hobby brass tubing which
would just barely accept #10 wire,

Aaaayyy! Should have typed #8 wire, not #10, continuing...

slipped one wire into the tubing and soldered it into place,
filling the empty 3/8" of the tubing about 1/3 full of solder as
well. Then I inserted the other wire, reheated the joint and
pushed the wire into the tubing. The solder flowed to the new
wire, a bit dropped to the floor, and the rest completely filled
the tubing. I then applied 2 layers of heatshrink tubing over
   the finished joint.

   Worked like a champ.

And it still does.
