[Elecraft] KXB3080 easier than you think

I have noticed a few posts wherein people have expressed some reservation about building and installing the KXB3080. If you let this aprehension get the better of you you will miss out on some great QSO's. Adding the KXB3080 is a lot like learing code. If you convince yourself that it is too hard you'll never get it. Once you start you'll discover it's a lot easier that you thought.

The best advice that I could give would be buy it build it and install it. If you can count you CAN wind the toroids. 
1.There is no mystery, it's not difficult the directions are easy to follow.
2. Read the manual from front to back before you begin. This will allow you to forsee the effect of something you do in one step has on subsequent steps.
3. Use the correct tools. The KXB3080 mod required that a number of components be removed. If you use a vacuum "solder sucker" your life will be easy. Even the "bulb syringe" type will suffice. They can be used one handed. A sewing needle stuck into a cork makes a useful awl to help open the through holes. Use it gently.
4. When in doubt ... Follow #2 above.

Try it you'll like it. 80 meters at one watt of blazing power is a real treat. I usually answer CQ's there call x1 my call x2 and fall out of the chair when they answer. It's a surprise every time. Then when you tell the other station that your sitting in a lawn chair with your entire station in your hand running a watt, they fall out of their chair. Hope to hear your KX1on 80 soon.
