[Elecraft] Monitor Noise

Hi Mark,
I have to echo W3FPR's advice. I had a Viewsonic monitor myself, and I DID
shield the inside, put ferrites on the VGA input cable, put chokes, ferrites
& capacitors on the AC input as well, and didn't even manage to reduce the
radiated noise. I suspect it's coming from the CRT itself. You will most
likely spend more money trying to fix that monitor than you would buying an
already shielded one or a TFT LCD one. Personaly I like the LCD monitors
(don't get a plasma screen monitor as some of them radiate worse than the
viewsonic), but haven't been able to afford one yet. I'm using the Dell
monitor that came with my computer, and whoever manufactures them for Dell
did an excellent job of shielding this one as I don't have any noticeable
radiation that I can find in any of the ham bands. There is a little
garbage appearing around 12 MHz that I can attribute to the monitor, but
even there it's attenuated enough that you wouldn't notice it unless the
atmospheric noise was very low.
