Dick,

Answering on reflector just in case others may have similar questions.

What are you getting in the display?  If you are seeing a waterfall type
display you failed to select 'line' on the Scan Input setup screen.

Other possibilities:  Are you using a stereo cable AND selecting the LEFT
channel?  That is necessary if you are taking the output from the ext
speaker jack (the jack is mono and will short out the ring on the stereo
plug - tip is the left channel at the soundcard).  OTOH, if you are using a
mono cable plugged into the soundcard mic input, you may be shorting out the
voltage source (for electret mics) at the soundcard end - some sound cards
will quit working if you do that.
