Yes
I gave it some thought because I was equally surprised (and disturbed) and
concluded that I should have looked into it deeper. In hind site, I beleive
that had I dialed the RF gain back a little on the R4C last night, it would
have made a world of difference. The truth of what I learned last night
only applies to both radios set up identically for maximum gain and
selectivity on a traditionally noisy band. What was i thinking? I am
obviously capable of making mistakes as the evening grows after a hard day
at work.. That is why I dont assemble my K2 on weeknights ;) Thank you for
your note!

Subject: K2 vs R4C A/B CW listening test
Hi Ken,
I have an R4C modified with all of the goodies as well. I have found the
opposite to be true. I like listening to the K2 over all the other radios
that I've owned, but the R4C with the Sherwood filters, audio amp, mixer and
product detector AND a good alignment sounds superior for CW and SSB
signals, in my opinion. The close-in performance is significantly better.
I live in an area where there are many active hams (running 1 kw power
levels) and I'm using a 80Meter inverted vee antenna. My k2 doesn't have
the 160 option but that is the band where the R4C really shines.
I use my R4C for serious operation along with an adapter that I made to use
my ICOM radio's transmitter in a transceive mode without having to tune both
radios seperately. I'll be making a modification so that I can use the K2
in the same manner since I also like the K2, but I don't feel that it is as
"good" as the R4C.
Just another opinion:-)
