I was tuning around on my K2 last evening and made an observation. While on
the 80 Meter band, I decided to keep tuning up in frequency until the PLL
lost lock, which didn't surprised me. What did surprise me was that when I
kept tuning...into the 40 meter band, the PLL didn't reaccquire nor did I
hear any band switching relays click. I switched bands to 40 via the
pushbutton switches and all was fine. I switched back down to 80 using the
same switches and the radio, although indicating a frequency in the 40 meter
band, was "deaf", still.
I'm curious if this is what others have experienced.

That is normal, Mike. The radio doesn't change bands automatically unless
you use "direct frequency entry".
Keep in mind that the frequency shown on the display is just the *requested*
frequency you made by spinning the knob. It is not related in any direct way
to the actual frequency you are receiving or transmitting on. When you ran
CAL PLL and CAL FIL, a table of tuning voltages and other data was stored in
firmware that says, "If the display indicates frequency X, then supply the
following tuning voltages to the oscillators..." The fact that you've tuned
far enough out of the band that the oscillators can no longer respond isn't
noted by the display in any way.
