Hi Thomas,

I designed the nGen for Elecraft and will try and answer your question.  The 
high frequency output is limited primarily by the use of thru-hole 
components and layout.  It actually produces significant noise output well 
past 1 gHz but gradually rolls off from the rated 500 MHz.  Changing the 
mmic alone is unlikely to significantly improve the high frequency response.
