[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for March 6-7th, 2005

Good Evening,
Twenty meters was quiet, preternaturally so. Ric who normally booms
into Oregon with his mighty K1 was ESP at best and non-existent at worst.
Ray's trusty KX1 got across the US but weakly today. Ken told me he heard
me not at all while listening on 20. Very strange propagation on that
band. Then on forty meters we had some noise but signals were not
strong. Steve moved to Colorado and just barely was able to check in.
Not sure which part of the state but not as strong as his Iowan signals.
And Bill's normally strong signal from Connecticut was attenuated quite a
bit. He was above ESP and then below it. Daniel was good for the first
go around and then disappeared. Tom seems to be at just the right
distance for us to work pretty well. He gave me a 339 though; hmph! Then
Bill up in Idaho decided it was time to turn the wick up on me and make my
ears rattle :) Normally only takes a couple of watts to cross the entire
width of Washington but not this evening. Roger who lives less than 50
miles away from me up near Montesano, Washington sounded like is signal
had gone across the pole. Quite watery; almost auroral sounding. John
from Alberta was learning how to use paddles after 50 years off the air.
Never said a word about my sending but I am not sure of whether he is
VE6JWR or PWR or ? He told me he had just gotten his license but had no
trouble copying me at 18 wpm or so. Hmmm ... have to hear him again when
his fist makes the transition from bug to paddles. I am pretty sure he
was a fine op in WWII but paddles and bugs are truly different beasts.
Good luck and hope to see you again very soon John!

As ever any mistakes will be corrected as soon as received. I will never
figure out propagation. Seems like magic. After last week I thought we
would go through the seasonal change but now we are going backward.
Almost like our daffodils set to beat the trilliums by blooming first.
This an odd year. The carpenter ants are already flying during the last
week of February. We had snow two weeks ago and now it is in the mid
60s. Hmmm ... I think we should watch the weather. The trilliums are
trying to tell me something ;)
    73 to all,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
