Cleaver is very correct. I like how the AGC is derived from an aux 2nd IF  of 
150KHZ.
The AGC is smooth and almost pumpless.
 
   I found out the K2's DSP is audio, because they did not want  to go to 32 
bit processing.
However the excellent front end  anf IF of the K2 will tax a DSP  less
However as you pointed out all your $1500 and under have 1 audio DSP 
 
  The original icom 746 used 16 bit and paid dearly for  it
