Even worse is what happens to the Colorado River.  

Think about this as you look at the water flowing out of the penstocks from
the Hover (Bolder) dam - NONE of that water reaches the Pacific (or
Atlantic) via the Colorado River.  Some may make it there via the LA Water
works and sewage, but the Colorado River dries up from us taking all its
water before it has a chance to run its course.
