[Elecraft] K1 filter board question

I have two boards for my K1: the usual 4 band setup for 40/30/20/15 meters,
and a 2 band board setup for 160/80 meters.
When changing from the 4 band to 2 band board, besides the physical replacement of the
RF board and replacement "piggyback" of the KAT1 board (if you have that installed)
Is as follows.
Tap BAND until 7.0 is displayed
Tap MENU and toggle WPM buttons until B1 is displayed.
Hold EDIT and 7.0 is displayed. Toggle WPM again until 1.8 is displayed.
Tap MENU and tap BAND until B2 is displayed, hold EDIT and now 10.1
is displayed. Toggle WPM until 3.5 is displayed.
Tap MENU and now you have band 1 set at 160 meters and band 2 set at 80
meters.
Now do the offset calibration procedure for 160 and 80 meters. Then operate
radio on those two bands as you normally would.
The chip in the K1 will remember these offset/calibration assignments
for each band that is calibrated. So when you change back to the 4 band card
all that is necessary is to reassign band 1 to 7.0 and band 2 to 10.1 and you
are back to you old 4 band offsets.
REMEMBER that you cannot assign say a offset for one band to two different
boards! In other words, you can't have say an 80/40 meter board and
a 40/30/20/15 meter board! Also once you do the calibration procedure
you don't have to repeat it unless you have say two 2 band boards setup
for say: 80/40 and 40/20 meters. If this is the case 40 meters has to be
calibrated EACH time the boards are changed as the offsets of the two
40 meter band crystals will be different. Hope this is clear!
160 meters is NOT a standard Elecraft board, but they have ALL the parts
necessary to build say a 160/80 meter board EXCEPT the band crystal for 160 meters.
The conversion is fairly simple and works without a hitch to any 2 band board
package. 80 and 17 meters is a "standard" item so this can be ordered if you
desire 80/17 instead of 160/80.
Ultimately, I'd like to build another 2 band board for say 17 and 10 meters.
This would be fun during 10 meter openings, no doubt "coming" in the future
soon.
Hope this hasn't discouraged you. Also I hope the "changeover" above
was clear.
73,
Sandy W5TVW

Subject: [Elecraft] K1 filter board question

| I bought both a 4-band and 2-band filter board for my K1. I built the 4-band
| board for 40, 30, 20, and 15 meters.
|
| I have parts to make the 2-band board either 80/17 or 80/15. I've also
| considered the 160/80 option. That's not what's bothering me. Here's the
| question:
|
| What's really going to be involved when swapping boards? Beyond the physical
| removal of one board and installation of the other, there are menu changes
| to make to identify what bands are installed. What about calibration? In the
| documentation for the 2-band board it indicates the K1 can remember settings
| for 4 bands so it's not necessary to re-calibrate every time you swap
| boards. They must be thinking I'm swapping two 2-band boards because 4+2 is
| six bands to remember.
|
| Anybody else using this configuration and can tell me what all I'll have to
| do every time I switch boards?
|
| My other alternative is just to forget the 2-band board and move on to
| building K2 #4941 which is sitting in its box ready to be built. I just feel
| like I should finish all the K1 options before moving on to the K2 otherwise
| the K1 will never get done.
