There has been discussion here about breaking the
ground loop between your computer and K2. Radio Shack
isolation transformers work well as was previously
mentioned.

Not mentioned was the PTT from the computer. It your
RS232 (com) port is connected to your K2 for PTT then
you have the potential for a ground loop. This can
also apply to USB ports. An opto isolator, again from
Radio Shack, will eliminate a PTT ground loop. You
need the opto isolator for the PTT as it is DC and
obviously will not go thru an isolation transformer.

Someone mentioned about floating, that is
disconnecting, the ground of their computer to
eliminate ground loop(s). That is not necessary nor
advised if you use the isolations transformers and
opto isolator mentioned. Never float the ground of
any equipment in your shack. One ground is okay, but
two from different circuits in the same set of
equipment is the cause of ground loops. Remember a
complete circuit, as is a ground loop, takes two
paths, or sides, to make a complete circuit. Breaking
one DC path will eliminate it.

Have a great day!
