[Elecraft] KPA100 questions before purchase

Hi,

I've been trying to decide whether to get the KPA100 or an external power amplifier such as the Ameritron ALS-500 or SGC power cube.  From what I understand, the Ameritron (which uses 4 of the same transistors that the KPA100 uses)  will deliver 150-200W with the K2 and the SGC will run full power or about 500W.

I would like to run in the 100 to 150W range most of the time but have to concede that I might want to run more power with my ICOM radio so there is a definite advantage to an external amp.

A major consideration, is that I want to be able to maintain my own equipment, which is why I went for a K2 in the first place.

So, while mulling over the pros and cons, I would like to get an idea of how much time the KPA100 would take to build for a seasoned kit builder/homebrewer.
