The method I use when repairing traces is to scrape the trace on each
side of the cut for about 1/4 inch and tin the trace. I bend one lead
of a resistor into a L shape and place the lead over the trace and
heat it to melt the solder.  I then cut the lead just beyond the
solder at the bend.  Component leads are usually copper plated steel
and are nice and stiff and straight, cutting a half inch or so doesnt
hurt the reuse of the resistor in most cases.  The result is a very
neat repair.

When adding blue wires for mods I like to use the kind of wire used by
telephone installers just clip off a peice of the cable and pull out
the wires.  It's single conductor and small and it stays close to the
board because it's stiff.  You need to tin both the trace and the wire
when soldering the ends because it's bare copper.  You need to bend
the wire to fit and bend the bare ends down slightly to make up for
the thickness of the insulation.
