[Elecraft] Station grounding question

It's an interesting question... I've not heard of the
practice, but am in the middle of installing a new
antenna system. I don't think it would be an effective
counterpoise, from a RF perspective. It lacks symmetry
and any real length on any of the most popular (active
in today's sunspot cycle) HF bands. Better than
nothing at all.

>From an ESD standpoint, the larger the area of the
lightning rod, the more current it will carry as it
presents a lower resistance. I would still drive
rod(s) into the ground.

My local Home Depot had a bunch of damaged 10 foot
lengths 3/4" copper tubing, which I purchased for less
than a single ground rod. These will be used as ground
rods at the base of the mast.

When it comes to lightning, better to err by over
doing it.
