Andrea,
Many people are confused by this one.  It is in the manual but you have 
to look.  Both double tap (band change) and single tap (display full 
frequency) on the band button do it.  There is no timer as there is on 
the K2.  Perhaps writing to the mpu's EEROM takes extra power.
