With the caps in backwards, your adjustment tool will need to be
non-conductive (when installed correctly, the screw end is grounded).
Otherwise, you're fine.
I would work my way backwards through the reciever with a wire or
small screwdriver. Just rub/touch component leads along the signal path
until you stop hearing scratchy noises or find a missing or unsoldered
component :).
