[Elecraft] K2 - NOISY POLLING

Hello Chris - I am using my K2/100 with N1MM and do not notice the noise
that you are referring to. I use the K2/100 with two laptops - one an old
P1 266mhz with only 80 meg ram (yes, it works fine with N1MM as long as you
don't have anything else running!). This old computer has a "real" RS-232
port. The reason I mention that is that my other laptop is a 2.6 gig with
512 meg ram, etc but NO serial port. I have to use a USB to serial
converter cable with it. When I use that computer, I can hear the converter
creating a slow pulsing broad rf spectrum that is receivable on all the rest
of the rigs in the shack. This is true whether the K2/100 is connected to
that computer or not. Now the interesting part is that when the K2/100 is
connected to the converter, I cannot hear the noise in the K2 - only in the
other rigs. BTW - the usb to serial converter works very nicely with N1MM.
You might want to check to see if you have any ground loop between the K2
and the computer. I think the cable should be grounded at only one end to
kill the ground loop. 73 es gud dx --don n4hh K2/100 #2028 KAT100, etc.
etc.
