[Elecraft] Ether Nets and Interferrence, redux

Good Morning Group,

A lot has been written about interference from Ethernets, and I would like
to share my latest experiences.

After returning from a rather long hiatus from ham radio, I discovered an
obscene amount of interference on the ham bands.  I later learned that it
was largely the result of 6 Ethernet'ed computers in the house with cat 5
wiring running all over, and 3 runs going through the ham shack.

After eliminating as much interference as possible by fixing or dumping a
bunch of wall warts and noisy power strips, I was left with 269 noticeable
hetrodynes from 10 through 30 MHz.

This past week I eliminated all the Ethernet wiring and went totally
wireless.  Tiger Direct (with whom I have no affiliation) was offering a
D-Link wireless router + USB receiver for $40 and additional USB receivers
for $20.  Similar deals are all around us.

As of this morning, the 269 hetrodynes was down to 78, with 52 of those
positively attributable to the CRT monitor.  Of the remaining 26, many are
probably internal to the K2, being harmonically related.  I'll work on those
with another receiver later.

Anyway, bottom line:  If your experience was anything like mine, I recommend
looking into wireless.  The HF bands are sure quiet.
