[Elecraft] Polar Bear #1 Needs Help!

Does anyone have a experience with the Sony VRD-VC20 DVD recording Unit?
It looks like it would work great and I don't have to tie up 
my computer to burn video dvds. The price is just over $215 
or so for a new oneand it comes with Nero Software to edit with a
computer or something like that. It also does DV, VCR, etc.

Hi Ed,

If I were you, I would get a DVD burner drive for your computer rather  
than an external recorder (which I presume is similar to a VCR, only
using  
DVD blanks instead of videotapes).  The prices have really come down  
lately -- I think about $40 is the going rate.  Using computer hardware

and video editing software is definitely a more powerful and flexible,
and  
probably cheaper, combination than some all-in-one device.  Although I  
would grant that an all-in-one device would be quicker to learn.

I also use my DVD burner to burn DVDs of TV shows recorded on my TiVo
DVR,  
but that's a whole 'nother story...
