[Elecraft] K1 volume

I have a K1 with the ATU and noise blanker.   I notice once in a while the 
volume will be low.when I turn it on.   A simple tap of the key will cause it to 
increase to normal at any volume setting.  Then when I am listening it may 
decrease again until I tap the key again to bring it to normal.  Anyone have any 
ideas as to what might cause this situation ?
