[Elecraft] Transverter LO frequency.

Good morning everybody,

Am I right in assuming that the LO frequency of the transverters is below
the signal frequency as no frequency inversion occurs , or are some clever
software tricks used to turn the IF frquency readout back to front if the
transverter LO is on the high side, ie a 30 MHz IFoutput from transverter is
made to look like 28MHz when signal frequency is say 144MHz (or 50 MHz ).

Reason for question. Am toying with the idea of retiring aged homebrew
transverters - subject to approval from headquarters and piggy bank - but
need more info on spurious response levels if LO is on the low side. 4Fo -
3Fsig = IF for example on 2 metres, which "crosses over" at Fsig = 145 MHz
if I remember correctly.
