[Elecraft] KX1 AGC

I decided to see how the KX1 would do with a lot of strong signals in the WPX CW contest.  I made a few QSO's just about all on the first call.  However, the AGC on the receiver bothered me.  It seemed as if when receiving a strong signal, the AGC would cause the audio to momentarily screech.  At the first dit of a transmission by a strong signal, I would hear a loud screech and then the gain would decrease and the rest of the transmission would be normal.  Has anyone experienced this?  I didn't think that there was any adjustment on the AGC.
