You are right, Paul, on your board the SMD that should NOT be installed near
the notch on the left is C58. That capacitor is associated with a pad for a
lead on the 50 MHz RF modules that isn't on the other units. You'll see that
the pad that capacitor attaches to is not used at all in your XV144.

I'm surprised! I thought that had been fixed long ago, I'm really surprised
you ran into it. It turned out very early on that some of the boards had
duplicate reference designators silk-screened on them. Note that you have
another C58 over near the lower right corner of the board near toroidal
transformer T1 that is also not installed in this version! 

Second item, you are right. There is NO part installed in the L.O. Frequency
adjustment pad for C64 (note that you should have a jumper across the C69
pads next to it. That was installed on page 50). That "Frequency Adjustment"
trimmer is used only on the 50 MHz transverters. The local oscillators on
the 144/220 MHz transverters can't be "pulled" to adjust their frequency. 

And, yes, the early (Rev B) boards had duplicate C64's as well. It turned
out that the designer's software was merrily spitting out duplicate
reference designators for a while there. Until it started driving me nuts as
I was cross-checking all the parts while writing the manual! 

Just out of curiosity, what Rev board to you have? If it's a Rev B, you're
fine, as far as it working goes, but I thought the Rev B boards were out of
the system because of the silk-screening mistakes!

Last one on the list is 

The SMD capacitor or C32 on the left next to the notch.  

I cannot find a SMD C32 location anywhere near that notch.  I do find an
empty C58 SMD location next to the notch.  If this the correct one that is
supposed to be component free?

AND

I have one other spot that has nothing installed that does not appear on the
"list of locations without components".  It is just left of the crystal
location OV1 and it is marked LO FREQ ADJ and it has C64 stamped just above
it and C69(jumper) just to the right of it and C53(capacitor) just to the
left of it.  Is this "LO FREQ ADJ" supposed to be component free too? 

FYI - there is another C-64 with capacitor on the board located next to and
under the 3 watt resistor.
