Every year around Field Day, Eric and I are reminded of our initial 
all-day, back-of-the-napkin K2 design session. We were at our favorite 
Field Day site, and instead of operating, we imagined what a really 
competitive FD rig might look like -- the right combination of 
operating features, small size/weight, low current drain, and excellent 
receiver performance. Needless to say, we used up all of our napkins.

Among our most important considerations for the K2, and later for the 
K1, was to include an internal battery. The battery allows you to use 
the rig anytime, anywhere: for emergencies, field operation, or just 
for fun. And because the current drain is low, even a small solar panel 
can be used with the internal battery to create a station that's 
totally independent of the power grid.

So, in honor of Field Day, we're offering special pricing on the 
battery options:  $49 for the KBT2, and $29 for the KBT1, with the 
purchase of either a K2 or K1 between now and June 26, 2004.

The K2 was completely updated earlier this year and is now easier to 
build than ever. The 2- or 4-band K1 is a great kit for first-time 
builders. Either way, we're sure you'll have as much fun at Field Day 
as we do.
