I use the Hakko 808 for tinning the toroids and wouldn't want to be
without it, results are outstanding...Before I "discovered" the Hakko, I
used an unregulated 60 watt Hexicon iron I have had for years...With all
that heat available, it did a rapid job of tinning the toroids via the
"blob" method...One starts off heating the wire as close to the core as
possible and slowly working out to the tip of the wire as the enamel
burns away...Tinning the toroids was the only thing I used this iron
for...Well, maybe soldering gas tanks...And Heathkits...

I made the toroids for my first K2 using the solder blob method which
took an
eternity to get the toroids tinned. On the present K2 I am using the
Hakko
808 to tin my toroids, and it is a shear pleasure. Just as Steve AA8AF
said in
a previous statement, the Hakko 808 makes toroid tinning a real joy and I
find it cuts the time in half to prepare toroids. The Hakko 808 is also
useful
for removing solder from those adjacent holes that are too close and get
filled
due to the capillary effect. The 808 is definitely a tool I wouldn't be
without. Roy Morris W4WFB<
