I also don't understand toroid fear.  They take almost no mental effort to
wind until the final check is made for correct turns count.  You can wind
them anywhere, such as while waiting for a meeting to begin, watching TV,
using a hands-free telephone, etc.  I've even taken some to work to wind
while listenening to training presentations.
