[Elecraft] K2 CW tone

TUNE produces a lower-level RF output than when the rig is keyed. Do you
have a good RF ground on the rig? RF feedback can cause those sorts of
issues in most rigs.
You are listening to your own signal? Is the antenna input to your monitor
receiver grounded? Overloading the monitor receiver can produce all sorts of
weird effects. Again, the K2 puts out more power when keyed than it does in
TUNE.
A power supply too close to the K2 WILL produce a raspy note, not just
"hummmmmm" thanks to FM modulation of the VCO's in the K2. It's low-level
modulation, usually, so it shows up much clearer when the signal is
stronger, as in when you "transmit" instead of operate in "Tune".

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 CW tone
I have completed K2 #4185 to the basic level, and it checks out correctly.
However, on-air tests have showed up a very rough T6 or thereabouts CW note.
The transmitted TUNE signal is clean, only the keyed signal and memory
playbacks are affected. At first I thought it was due to excess ripple on
the power supply, but changing to the internal battery made no difference.
It's a constant raspy note, not mains hum or (apparently) modulation.
Baffled.
Any ideas, anyone?
