One way to get a really good feel for the effects of varying "beta" and
"decay" on the denoiser is to set them both to 99 and listen to a strong
signal. Then change one of them to 00 and hear the difference, Then the
other one to 00, then the first on back to 99. Four settings in all. Then
repeat with a weak signal.

The step size is quite small in the KDSP2, so it is hard to get a good feel
for things by stepping only 1. Stepping from 99 to 0 is a step of 100,
which is pretty drastic!

And don't forget the denoiser has a "length" setting from 1 to 4. This can
be pretty dramatic as well...

You can then do the same experiment with the notch filter on a heterodyne.
In this case, you can then tune the radio and hear the effect of the attack
and decay. An easy way to set this up is to tune in the 4.000 MHz "test"
signal that your K2 thoughtfully provides on 80 meters :-)

I also find that very low values of decay have a dramatic effect on the
autonotch. The default of 07 is just starting to cause distortion, at least
to my ears. If you reduce it down to 00 or 01, you'll find the distortion
increases but the tone is really well suppressed.

Also, if you need to suppress multiple tones, a setting of 00 or 01 is more
effective.

Enjoy!
