[Elecraft] ELEPRODUCT POLL (WAS Any advice on the OHR WM-2QRPwattmeter?)

Considering the power level of the K1, every short vertical combination I have tried
gave rather dismal performance with a lot to be desired. You can do a lot with
a 33' 'randon wire if it is combined with at least two radials laid on the ground
about 33' long each. Three to four radials give better performance yet.
One is "so-so" but two are kind of a practical "minimum". I use surplus
24 guage Mil spec hookup wire! No balun needed, just a binding posts
to BNC adapter. The KAT1 tunes up great on 40-15!

| But how much profit could there be in selling a simple wire dipole? : - )
|
| Thirty years of experimenting with and wasting money on about every type of compact
antenna that could be made portable have led me to the conclusion, beyond any doubt,
that a simple, cheap, compact, light-weight, resonant dipole is the only really
"decent" portable antenna.
|
| Short loading-coil verticals are, OTOH, absolute abominations, even though one can
waste a lot of money and signal on commercially-made versions.
