Believe it or not, Wayne and I talked about that a LOT while I was writing
the KX1 assembly instructions. I always write instructions based on having
verified every step myself, soldering iron and nippers in hand. That's how I
built S/N 0004, shooting pictures, making drawings and thinking carefully
about what might give builders trouble each step of the way.
I actually had a screwdriver that worked on mine, but it was one I had
modified for an odd adjustment need many years ago. So I asked Wayne and we
chatted about whether it would cause trouble for builders not to supply a
tool or tell builders how to make a tool from the materials in the kit.
We have a "rule" that the tools must be something very common in all
builder's kits or something included in the kit. It's not possible to say
"run down to the local market and get a chopstick" <G>. Of course, every
little tid-bit added to the kit costs money. Not just for the part, but for
inventorying the part, picking it while assembling the kits, packaging it,
yada, yada, yada. A 2-cent part can end up costing a buck - or more. So we
really try to avoid "special order" parts and tools.
We decided that it wouldn't be that big of a deal to builders to find a
suitable adjustment tool in their boxes.
Apparently we were wrong. (Gulp!) Sorry about that! I think that's the only
one. Please tell me if I'm wrong. It's been a while!
