   ...wondering if I'd fried Kixie, my KX1, by leaving
it in my trunk in the blazing 80's.

   I took it inside, waited until it was cool enough
to handle. 

   The loop was disconnected outside, so I hanked on
the 20M EDZ...noise...decent match on 20M.
Worked W9JQT,  Bob, in Hinsdale, Illinois, using the
internal batteries for about a watt and a half.  Bob
was using his RockMite at about 400 mW, he said. 

Well, he tapped it out in code, anyway.

Then I went to 30M and worked Mike, NL7G, in
Anchorage, AK, 559 both ways.  Took me two years to
work AK, now it's workable with a watt and a half.  
What's going on here?
