Thanks for your responses. I also received an offline response from Gary at Elecraft support. I'll paste his response in below because it fills out some of the details. In essence, you were all correct. I don't have a problem on this score.

Yes, the KSB2 manual was written long before the new instructions on
grounding the X5-X11 crystals in the K2. You just have to keep the wires
down near the lower 1/2 of the crystals, or at least down enough from the
top that they do not interfere with the installation of the KSB2.
Apologies for the confusion. The KSB2 manual needs updating on this, or an
errata item.
