Paul,
The post-3000 serial number K2s are the most recent board layout and many
'Elecraft approved' mods were incorporated into that change. To the best of
my knowledge, the keyclick mod is the only one that is not currently
incorporated (the new boards also have everything ready for the XV60
addition).
John Grebenkemper KI6WX has developed mods to the SSB board - specifically
the SSB filter bandwidth and the audio gain - whether this is an
'improvement' for you or not is for your decision - I particularly like the
2.2 kHz bandwidth filter, only requires some capacitor value changes, so do
it while you are building the board only because it is easier. (The ALC mod
and 2nd xtal filter changes have been 'Elecraft approved' and are
incorporated into the latest kits). If you want to see John's writeup, you
can download the pdf file from http://home.pacbell.net/johngreb/KI6WX.html -
look for the article titled 'Improving the Performance of the KSB2.

Yesterday I read in one of the posts a reference about improving the SSB
performance with some mods to the SSB board. Can anyone elaborate more on
these mods and where they are listed and any of you who have done these mods
can you please review the performance improvements you have noticed.
Are these mods able to be done on all units or do they apply to early units
only?
It seems like serial #3000 is important to any mods and changes.
