Hi John,

>Got a used Tektronix Scope, whats safe to use to clean it up?

This probably depends on which 'scope. Here's the short version
of the cleaning instructions from a Tek 2465 manual:

Avoid the use of chemical cleaning agents which
might damage the plastics used in this instrument.
Use a nonresidue-type cleaner, preferably isopropyl
alcohol or a solution of 1% mild detergent with 99%
water. Before using any other type of cleaner, consult
your Tektronix Service Center or representative.

They also talk about blowing off dust with dry low
pressure air at 9 psi, dusting with a soft brush, or
wiping with a cloth dampened with detergent in water.
(Or cotton tipped applicator.)

If that doesn't work, they go for a spray wash with 5%
detergent in 95% water, followed by a clean water rinse,
followed by blow drying.

BUT

The Attenuator assemblies and Front Panel module can't
be cleaned that way.

Clean switches with isopropyl alcohol and wait 60 seconds
for the majority of the alcohol to evaporate. Then complete
drying with low-pressure air.

Then dry all components and assemblies in an oven or drying
compartment using low-temperature (125 F to 150 F) circulating
air.

I don't think I'd put it in the kitchen oven.

Most places where they talk about soldering, they talk about
clean up with isopropyl alcohol.
