I agree that it works great if you don't have the money for one of the 
vacuum pump models.  It also works great for tinning toroid leads.  
Press down the plunger and put it in a vice with the tip up and put 
some solder in the tip.  Then insert the toroid lead and after a second 
or two, press the button to suck away the burnt off enamel and excess 
solder.  It's worth the price just for this.
