Jerry,
I hope your comments will not discourage anyone from using 63/37 solder.
I use 63/37 solder and have no problem doing rework because of it -
especially with my Hakko 808.
63/37 solder has no plastic state (that is what 'eutectic' means), and all
the solder in the joint must be molten before attempting to suck it out or
some will be left
behind. OTOH, this is the same property that makes it so good for
soldering - this same characteristic is why 63/37 solder greatly reduces the
chance of cold solder joints.
Technique is important for de-soldering, and each person must practice a bit
to develop his own technique that works properly. Tom Hammond has given us
many pointers to shorten the learning curve.
