And, as a point of reference, Jim could easily have been describing my
(external) Timewave 599ZX DSP.  Well, except it took me longer to figure out
the Timewave ;)

Point being, I think you'll find any DSP worth it's salt will be
'complicated to use' at first. No different than any other 'sophisticated'
piece of gear.
