I was in our local Radio Shack a couple of days ago looking for 
something else.  I happened to notice a desoldering tool. It was 
basically a pencil iron with a rubber squeeze bulb on the end.  I 
didn't look at the price, but I imagine it would be $20 or so.  I don't 
know how effective it would be in practice, but it might be worth a 
try.
