   Other than the Hakko 808, or perhaps riggin up my own pump to a RS
   desoldering iron, does anyone else suggest an affordable (< $500)
   desoldering iron?

Speaking of hooking up your own pump for desoldering, does anyone have
any information on doing such?  I've got an 808, and it's WONDERFUL,
but I'd like to see if I can put something together for occasional
travel use, to replace the rubber bulb on the WTCP desoldering tips
that I have already.
