[Elecraft] Elecraft K2 SN 01324 Front Panel Switch Question

Hi

S7 is indeed a switch but it has a square key cap rather than the =
rectangular ones like all of the others. The hole and pad on the board =
under S7 is a plated through feed through. You will find these all over =
the boards. This is how connections are made from the front to the back =
of the boards when there is not a component lead there to do it. This is =
also why you do not need to worry about soldering the component leads on =
both sides because the holes are plated through. You do not need to fill =
the feed throughs with solder.

It is ok to look ahead a little just do not work out of sequence there =
are very good reasons why the manual is written the way it is and all =
will become clear as you progress. There will also be components on the =
back of the boards so you may find some places where a part must be =
installed on one side before some other component can be installed on =
the other side.=20

Sounds like you are having fun so onward through the fog. If there is =
anything you are not sure of and rereading the manual dose not clear it =
up just ask the reflector. Someone should have the answer.

Subject: [Elecraft] Elecraft K2 SN 01324 Front Panel Switch Question

  Guy's

Can someone "put my mind at rest"....or ....."ring LOUD alarm
  bells"...whatever's appropriate...

This morning, I have started the K2's Front Panel Assembly...which =
now,
brings me to the "switches"... for the controls...

I have "cheated" ever so slightly, to "try to see through the mist =
ever so
slightly better"...where I actually put the board "inside" the front =
panel,
to give me an idea of where the controls on the board are =
situated...Don't
Worry..!! I took the board out again before soldering assembly =
started..!!

I have a "discrepency" with ....S7.....on the board.... When looking =
at
"my" picture on the manual of the rig, the control "seems" to be a =
"rotary"
type thing, and NOT a "push-button"....am I looking at this =
correctly..??
Therefore my ?? is... does indeed one of the "push-button" componants
  ACTUALLY go there..."clear
as water" I know, just want to make sure.. There may be a "typical" =
design
reason for this...not sure...but to me I think there should be a =
"rotary
  pot" in there...

Also...why in S7 is there a "componant hole" situated underneath where =
the
"pushbutton" switch "might" go...obviously NOT got to that part in the
manual yet,...but wanted to ask... I seem to be a push switch and =
cover
down also...will need to check the remaing zip bags I have with =
componants
  in them....

Pardon my ignorance guy's..... And "Thanks In Advance" as they =
say....this
  "Smelting Solder" sure is fun..!!

Tom N0SS...if you're reading this...will get a couple of files off to =
you in
the next day or so, with the "old" and "new" resistance findings of =
the
  first board...hang in there...I am..!!
