Earl, one point of confusion is that presumably the vertical dipole is
center fed as a balanced load. To what is the radial ground field connected
relative to the feed system?
Is the intent to establish enough copper in or on the ground to minimize
I^2R loss in the soil caused by proximity of the end of the vertical dipole
which is a point of high r-f potential? In that case, it would be connected
to nothing associated with the feed system . . .
I note that some commercial "halfwave" verticals use shortened radials at
the ground end of the antenna connected in some manner to the antenna.
Presumably this is intended to reduce "ground" loss.
