As a CW operator, I complained a lot about the filters when I first 
built my rig. However after changing the grounding from the top to the 
sides, replacing the crystals with the newer, more accurately spec'd 
ones, and rewinding the input transformer to the latest specs, I am 
happy.  It is true that the filters do not have skirts as sharp as my 
standard of comparison, which is a pair of cascaded 400 Hz INRAD 
filters, but in terms of practical QRM fighting ability they are totally 
adequate -- and in fact, sometimes the slightly wider skirts are an 
advantage, as in a contest situation when you need to hear callers 
slightly off frequency.

I think sometimes we lose sight of the real-world forest when we look 
too closely at the technical trees.
