[Elecraft] Favorite antennas for the K1 or K2?

I have very limited space horizontally and I'm limited to about 30 feet
vertically, so I use an "inverted L" on 40 and 30. It works to a lesser
degree on 80. The Inverted L is 60 feet long, going straight up from the =
ATU
at the shack window to the top of the pole 30 feet above the operating =
desk,
then horizontally 30 feet. It loads against a tuned, elevated =
counterpoise.
The counterpoise is adjusted for maximum current on each band. The
counterpoise isn't strictly necessary for good efficiency when the =
antenna
is near 1/2 wave long or longer, but it's critical to keep RF "out of =
the
shack".=20

The Inverted L is far better on 40 than a doublet at 30 feet, showing a =
mix
of vertical radiation and horizontal radiation from the area up near the
bend in the "L". On 20 and up, a doublet at 30 feet up works FB with =
lots of
good DX since it's 1/2 wave up in the air on 20. Sure dual stacked =
yagi's
or quads at 60 feet would work better, even better a circle of 6 =
wavelength
terminated rhombics on 60 foot telephone poles, but like I said I do =
have
some small limitations <G>.

The biggest problem that I have with the L is when I tell the other guy
"...ANT HR INV L - INV L..." He invariably comes back with something =
like,
"...FB ON THE INV V OM..." So don't be too surprised if I work you and I
tell you that I'm using a "vertical" <G>.

...For more DX capability, a vertical with elevated radials, (if quarter
wave) or probably more bullet proof and an underutilized concept is a =
full
vertical dipole for 20m, (halfwave). for 40 m, you probably have to =
go
with a quarter wave vertical, and if elevated radials you can get by =
with 8
with 16 better. Such an antenna will bring what DX there is when the =
sun is
cooperating for 20m, and 40m remains useful even when the higher bands =
are a
problem due to propagation conditions.
