I also thought the K2 keying was too soft when I first tested it. Now I know
it was a function of my test set up. I was running the K2 into a 50 ohm
dummy load and listening with my IC-746PRO set to a filter of 50 HZ. It
sounded too soft. The keying was better with the 150 HZ filter and using a
250 HZ or wider filter it sounded good. The narrow filter in the receiver
adds shaping to the signal and that shaping is added to the shaping done in
the transmitter. It probably doubles the 5 ms shaping to 10 ms or more. I
feel some of us have been able to use excessive receiver filtering because
the transmit signal was too hard. The total shaping from the key to the
speaker is the sum of the shaping of each part of the signal path.
