Jeff,
I have been rediscovering CW and while it takes time, I'm sure you'll be
fine. Copying code is great practice, but nothing helps to make it more
natural than to send. I'm sure it must be the same with any language. If you
can find a slow speed net, give it a shot. It would also be great to set up
a sked with some other op who will stay with you at 6 or 7 wpm and help you
to ramp your speed up. There are so many fine operators on this list. I'm
sure that if you posted a request for a sked you'd get some responses.
Don't be discouraged by the sticky spots you'll hit. Eventually, you'll blow
right through to higher speeds.
While speed is good, accuracy is better. Strive for readable code. I hear
lots of ops with 'distinctive' fists. I hear them... I just can't copy them.
The Elecraft rigs all have very serviceable keyers that will help you
develop a good fist.
I hope we can Work each other soon.
