[Elecraft] EQP: a CW-only contest?

Boy can I relate to Mark's experience! After 51 years in ham radio,
principally as a phone operator, I had a terrible time on EQP. At 71,
building CW talents do not come as easily as to a 19 year old Communications
Technician in the US Navy during the Korean War and I had a tough enough
time with the code then!
I was left wondering, where did the old standy, "slow down to the slow guys
speed" go? I ended up giving reports to guys to enhance their scores and
they would send my report like they were playing burnout! Between that and
laboring with band conditions on Saturday, I had basically four or five
complete exchanges with stations that were courteous and considerate enough
to help me thru the ordeal by sending my report at my speed and to them my
heartfelt THANK YOU. You exemplify the true spirit of amatuer radio. I am
ashamed to admit, I shortly gave up and went to help a fellow ham with his
antenna problems. :-(
Jamie's (WB4YDL's) response to Mark's reflector message is just what I
needed. Jamie, thank you. I have saved your message in my contest folder and
will certainly employ its principles in the next go around. I am sure it
will enhance my enjoyment. So you guys who want to play burnout? I may have
my laptop up on cw and we will see if you can copy your report at 75wpm! :-)
:-)
73s to all, Jim, W4ATK
