Great idea, Dennis. The batteries are situated toward the front, working to your
advantage in this orientation.

Another convenient way to use the rig at night is to power it up in CW audio
feedback mode. In this mode the rig really is usable entirely eyes-free. You can
place it on your chest and effortlessly use all of the controls without ever
looking at the front panel. 

In fact this is how we tested and refined the CW feedback features, which have
proven to work well for blind and/or sleepy operators  ;)
