[Elecraft] Odd problem (scratching head here)

I just hung a 87' W9INN 80-10 'high performance' dipole at about 30', =
mainly to get on 40 mtrs. I've still got some 'tweeking' to do since the =
SWR is kinda high on 40 (3:1) but the KAT2 seems to handle it for now. =
But I ran across something unusual that may/may not be antenna related.

This is the first time I've had a 40mtr capability at this QTH so of =
course the first band I listened to was 40.

On this band, and this band alone, there is/was a S5-7 level 'buzzy' =
sounding noise present pretty much across the band. None of the other =
bands had what sounded to me like powerline hash or even light ignition =
noise. I started investigating, first pulling the power (operating on =
internal K2 battery), turned my PC off, unplugged the cable =
modem/wireless router, flipped breakers, turned everything off within =
50' and nothing cleared it up.

My Timewave 'random noise' filter helped quite a bit but I had just =
about decided it could be some sort of neighborhood RFI and there might =
be a KNB2 in my future. I forged ahead and tossed out a 'CQ'. As soon as =
the first dash went out the noise disappeared! Well, not entirely but =
it's way down in the 'normal' bandnoise level. I can't 'predictibly' =
reproduce it, but *sometimes* I can key the xmitter, send just a dit and =
it comes back (and stays). Then I can send another dit and it goes away. =
=20

It's mostly 'off' (thank goodness) but something is going on and I want =
to get to the bottom of it. Since I can significantly reduce it by =
keying the xmitter it makes me think the noise is somehow being =
generated in the K2 (?). Could it be KAT2 related since the ATU is =
matching a fairly high SWR (3:1)?

I have used my K2 on 40 before (using a W9INN 160/80/40 dipole) and it =
worked great... certainly nothing like this ever happened using that =
antenna or my 'main' Sigma GT5.=20

Anyone have any idea what might be going on? =20
