[Elecraft] K2 #4114 born prematurely

My K2 #4114 arrived on Monday, for my birthday on 1st April, hense 
premature.

 Yesterday I did an inventory, nowt missing, built the control board and front 
panel, blew 2  2N7000's on the control board ( sidetone and RX not 
switching ) when , I'm guessing here, they got spiked by my WELLER TCP 
which appears not to be earthed at the bit anymore. So I stole some 
replacements from the RF board to test and I now have everything working 
up to starting the RF board build.

Now, has anyone got ideas as to why my weller tip is'nt earthed?. Is there a 
high resistance 'bleeder' that may have gone O/C somewhere in't.
